Wesley Osoro

Wesley is 25 years old and attends The Catholic University of East Africa, where he is working toward a Bachelors in History and International Relations. He was first introduced to art when he was young and started sketching in pencil. He did not have access to any other art supplies but his dad, upon noticing his talent, bought him a sketchbook. The first time he painted was when he joined Uweza’s art program in 2011.

His favorite subjects to paint are elephants and life in the slum. He hopes, through his paintings of Kibera in particular, to show how people in Kibera live and the challenges that people are facing. Through his paintings, he invites us to admire the pure beauty of nature and appreciate it. According to him, art can change your life. Being part of the gallery has helped him avoid harmful behaviors and given him the opportunity to discover his talents.

The biggest challenge that he faces is marketing his work and getting noticed and known as an artist. In the future, he dreams of becoming an internationally recognized artist. He is also seeking stability and independence as an artist. In addition to painting, Wesley also teaches art classes for children at Uweza.

He hopes to continue inspiring young generations by showing them that art actually changes lives.
